I got the service kit from mocal. Excellent service from them. Less than 24hours from placing the order.
I took the stat off the car and took it apart. It is a very simple bit of kit. Both halves of the casting look to be exactly the same so I dont think it can be put together wrongly. The new kit has all the parts needed to refurb the stat.
As I mentioned somewhere before my oil is still not getting hot enough so I thought the best thing to do was to overhaul the stat and fit a higher temperature waxstat (92 deg). The thermostat is very simple. When cold the feed to the oil cooler is blocked. The oil flows from the engine through the thermostat body and back to the engine. As it heats up the expansion of the waxstat uncovers the outlet to the oil cooler. All 4 connections are then open. I assume that is enough to get a flow through the cooler. I am not sure exactly how the flow is made go through the cooler as there has to be a differential for a liquid to move either pressure or temperature so it must be temperature.
Anyway I stripped it down and rebuilt it very simple I also double checked I had the connections correct and I had. Hopefully I will see a result when I take the car for a run
