25th Anniversary 2014

Post by robr1006 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:25 pm

It will be ERAs 25th Anniversary at a date to be determined in 2014.

Perhaps we could start by debating here what the spiritual date should be i.e. Launch date, first production car build date, date of first sale or some other suggestion. I know Chris will be able to officiate over the proposed date!

Having decided on "The Date" how should we mark the occasion?

A massed gathering at the Factory would be nice if it still existed! So should we go for a massed gathering nearest to the factory post code? I know this was done by 4 cars I think in the past - can anyone offer any information?

Or perhaps if the date selected is convenient with one of the larger fairly central Mini shows - say Standford Hall in September - perhaps we could get an invitation to gather there. It would be great to get the biggest gathering of ERA in one place at any time.

Then the big question is who can make it? I shall start the list:

I should be on the road soon all being well.
Stanford hall is often a dry day, though hard standing would be best.
I am up for it.

Sounds good and Stanford Hall not too far for us.

It is also the IMM in the Uk in 2014 of course albeit they are holding it down in Kent so not exactly central but we are hoping to get down there.

Anyone planning to be out on the roads for Drive It Day on Sunday? Our plan is to to go to Chasewater transport show if weather reasonable.

I think it's time we decided where would be the best place to get most ERAs together this years anniversary. I think the IMM maybe the obvious place, but anywhere more convenient to the majorty would be suitable - Any ideas?

Kent is a jaunt for me but i'd be up for it if we can get a bunch of us together.

I'd prefer something more central myself if possible though.

Hope to see you all soon.

We don't appear to be getting anywhere on this subject.
It would be a pity to miss an opportunity to meet and let people see our cars. Over the time I have owned my car, I have spoken to people about the ERA and very few people know they exist. The purists do but they are few and far between.
No other group seems to be interested in us so we need to raise our profile ourselves.
I personally don't possess the attributes or the time of an event organiser but I am prepared to help where needed if possible.

We do need a list of possible events.

Central Events

11th May Himley Hall
26th May Mini & VW Show, Knebworth Park (i dont know anything about this one)
12th July Oulton Park Mini Festival (I am N/A that day)
10th August Mini In The Park Santa Pod
31st August Mini Fest Uttoxeter Racecourse (Has Hard standing)
14th September Stanford Hall

May be more than one.

We need reasonable ground so as not to crunch the body kits.

There are lots more Classic car events Steam fairs etc around the country but these are possibly the biggest Mini events.
We have to start somewhere. Time is running out. We have to get moving.

There have been 1762 views on this topic but only 7 replys. If you assume that most of the views are interested people, that is pretty good

Stanford MITP at Santa Pod has no soul, Cornbury was different show.
