ERA ID plate 1138
ERA ID plate 1138

This is a bit naughty. All should be aware this R1138 plate could be going to a replica.
Maybe put it on file somewhere?
It Makes me wonder if documenting my restoration is a wise thing to do.
Any thoughts?

Re: ERA ID plate 1138
According to the register, UK cars only went up to R1103, 1138 would be a Japanese car but the prefix should be RJ, & for the seller to say "original" ....Definitely dodgy.
Also is the same seller from Italy of the grille/boot badge shown in an earlier topic

Re: ERA ID plate 1138
Yes i agree with both comments, you cant be too careful.
I have had a quick look at my ID plate and it is very slightly different.
The numbers are stamped a lot smaller. Eg R1234 the 1234 is stamped half that size.
ERA logo is down a bit lower, parallel with the letter c on (car).
Type. APP. No.16801T is lower down central between the top letters and the bottom letters.
Iam not sure if all the ID Plates were stamped up the same or should be,worth having a check to see if any slight differences?.

Re: ERA ID plate 1138
It might well go on a replica, hopefully mine.
I'm the current highest bidder.
I too checked the register and saw that it isn't listed in the UK section and suspect it is a replica badge too.
If i win it it will be stamped with the word replica between the type app & ERA Ltd.
I havent seen another replica as accurate as mine and i was going to make a badge where the number was replaced with a stamped "eplica" after the capital R, but this will save me time and hopefully stop it going to someone who is trying to sell a replica as a genuine ERA.
I just hope it doesnt go for silly money, however if a genuine ERA owner see's it and is desperate for it to replace their missing original plate, please PM me and i will not bid any higher.

Good luck with the bid.
If you don't win it, lets hope the eventual winner is as honest as you.

Re: ERA ID plate 1138
Giving it a bit of thought.
I think the comments in R1067 for sale thread are true.
I also think that anyone considering building a replica copy to pass off as an original couldn't do it cheaply. I know that my restoration is costing an awful lot of money and time to get it right. The original special ERA parts be it second hand or new old stock are just not available now. The odd part comes on the market occasionally but there will never be enough to build a car to pass off as original to an informed purchaser.
So time and money puts a good replica cost in the region of about £10 to £12,000 before any profit could be made.
I have the receipts for all that is going into my car hidden away from my wife's eyes.
I daren't add them up until I have finished. (the receipts that is, not my wifes eyes)

Re: ERA ID plate 1138
Hope you get it for your car Darren,as it would be best if it goes to someone on this site.
One thing we would know where it is and goes to good use (IN SAFE HANDS)
Good luck with your bid, hope you get it.

I'm hoping to get it too, but i'm not going to pay silly money.
Re: ERA ID plate 1138
Been chatting with Dean and thought it would be good to show a couple of pictures of different but all genuine ID plaques.
I have hidden the numbers of a couple but left the Gaydon one untouched.
As you can see (just about) the Gaydon car doesn't have the typ app stamped, one green one has it stamped and the third is printed identical to the one at the top of the page.
I wonder how many others there are out there?
I guess the ebay badge may well be genuine and wonder what the history is behind it.
If i do win it I am now starting to wonder if i should deface a genuine badge though, but on the other hand i suspect the car it came off may no longer exist so what ever car it goes on it will never be true.
Maybe the register should include it with a note that it is no longer on a genine ERA untill the new owner of the plaque confirms otherwise.
