Oil pressure gauge/warning lamp

Post by prop » Fri May 31, 2013 3:43 pm

I switch the ignition on. Oil pressure gauge zaps right over to 10 no oil warning light. Touch both wires to earth, light comes on, pressure gauge goes to zero. I assume there is a connection missing somewhere
Any Ideas?

With the ignition switch in position 2, engine not running no pump relay connected the petrol pump runs continuously
If I disconnect the white/pink to white/orange pump stops.
If this connection is wrong then what should it be
I am getting nowhere fast.
Really stumped this time.

Now found out this connection is wrong. Don't have it like this.

Hi the pink and white wire goes to the ignition coil positive and the orange goes to the thick white with Brown trace the thin white with Brown trace goes to the oil pressure switch

Just worked it out.
Got those connections wrong. Connected it like Ian said but not connected the pink/white It shouldn't go to the coil as it isn't a ballast coil/ballast system.
So that is the last question.
Is the pink and white left disconnected?

An update.
I switch the ignition on. Oil pressure gauge zaps right over to 10 no oil warning light. Touch both wires to earth, light comes on, pressure gauge goes to zero. I assume there is a connection missing somewhere
Any Ideas?
It seems to have been two separate faults.
First.
The oil pressure gauge sender faulty.
As far as I can see it should earth at zero pressure and as pressure builds the resistance increases to operate the gauge. I can't measure a connection through it so it needs replacing.
Second.
Wiring connections were wrong.
With the correct connections the oil light now works correctly and the feed to the fuel pump now works as it should (no feed to pump with no oil pressure except at start up)
Previous owner messed with it and connected the best they could I suppose.
Hopefully that's it.
