POOR QUALITY RUBBER

Post by prop » Sun Apr 21, 2019 11:50 pm

While fitting my oil thermostat recently I discovered the inner CV joint rubber gaiters had split. They have only been on the car for 6 years. I wouldn't expect them to go in that time. and, while replacing them one of the rubber covers on a track rod ends I discovered had also split I cannot remember where I got them from. I suspect I got them from one of the shows. I have replaced them with genuine rover parts from minispares I hope they are better quality.Time will tell. Last year I had to replace most of the rubber fuel pipe I had put on in the restoration. Again I can't remember where I got it from. I have now decided to only replace fuel pipe with Gates fuel pipe. As far as I am aware it is i quality product. There is a lot of talk about the effects of the modern fuel on pipes etc but I am convinced it is the poor quality of some of the modern rubbers.
