Dizzy thoughts....

Post by An old original » Wed Sep 21, 2011 3:46 pm

I require a new distributor and according to the microfiche it should be a AUU1533. The only one I can find from the usual places (minispares, Somerford etc) is an AUU1536. The chap from minispares suggests that it would physically fit but could/would create running problems due to the curve(?) being wrong. I presume this is something to do with the rate it advances the timing but I'm uncertain of these things...
Any of you clever people out there can say whether this would be the case and whether I should take a punt (with about £110) and just try it!!

Interesting post.
I don't have the original unit.
Do you or anybody else have the actual Lucas numbers for the unit. I know it is a 65DM4 which is the common type but the other numbers will be interesting to know.
On the body of the unit, the bracket of the vac advance and the number stamped on the centrifugal advance
My numbers on the non original are

Part no 41955B
2785(date)

Vac unit
Part no 3440 8369
Operating data 100 380 9

Centrifugal advance 6 or could be 9

These pics are the best I can manage without taking bits off
The numbers to the left of the 2003 on the body are 1533, confirming the type as in my original post (I presume!)
