Re: Restoration R1028
I believe Martin is keeping you updated on this, but for anyone else with this problem, We are currently going through the process of having some rubber arch trim re-manufactured.prop wrote: The biggest problem I think is the body kit. The rubber seal is the stumbling block as the other thread on the forum is showing. I hope to have a few photos of the progress at the body shop to post shortly.
We are about 4 - 5 weeks away from a sample being available for us to test.
As soon as it arrives i will be trying it on one of my arches and will post a pic if it is ok.
If anyone else is interested in replacing the trim on your ERA, let me know and i will pass on our manufacturer/suppliers details when he has stock available.
All the best
Darren

Re: Restoration R1028
I have found a few problems with the paint finish.
Very disappointed.
It is going back to the body shop for them to put right the things that are wrong.
As I said very disappointed!!!!

Re: Restoration R1028
Oh dear,
What's wrong with the paint?
What's wrong with the paint?
Re: Restoration R1028
Inconsistent gloss.
Runs in clear coat.
Paint lifting on the nearside wing.
Paint lifting on seam trim.
In the engine bay the turbo housing box they have just painted over the rust. Quote "Thought it wouldn't be seen"
I scraped through it with my thumb nail.
Missed areas in many places.
The body kit has too many faults to mention.
The nearside wing hasn't been pulled out far enough so the body kit won't fit without distorting the shape too much.
A nightmare really.
So they have it back to put right.
I will see what they give me back

Ah, i see what you mean. That is terrible workmanship.
I hope they put it right properly.

Re: Restoration R1028
I got the car back again today.
The work has been done to the level I would have expected the first time. It looks very good.
Why would anybody do a job that has to be done twice?
Much easier to do it right the first time.
Anyway, that episode is over.
Now the work starts on the reconstruction. I am really looking forward to getting started on it.
First job is removing the sub frames which are in perfect condition (corrosion wise) The rear needs the mods that ERA made and a repaint. The front is the original and only needs a repaint. With the sub frames off, treatment needed of the underside for the little rust there is and then a full wax oil.
Has any body joined in the debate (one sided as it is) on any of the forums about EBay removal of the classic car parts section?
EBay have hidden the link on their community page ( I wonder why?) but if you use this it will take you there.

I emailed practical classics about it and got an email back from Danny Hopkins the editor. I phoned him to explain and he has asked to be kept informed. One of the comments from eBay was classic car parts section was little used that's why they took it away!
