Normal Running Temps

Post by prop » Fri Jun 16, 2017 1:38 pm

Hi guys not been on for a while. Looks like its been quiet. Thats good, everyones car must be working well.

What is the normal running temp on a warm day?
I am still over cooling I think. Water is showing 80 and oil 70 on the guages after a good thrashing. I have removed the aux rad and covered the oil cooler with card top and bottom but it wont go over those figures. I would have thought 90 for the water and over 80 for the oil.
Would be good to know what I should be looking for with imformation from you guys

Mine sits just over 80 all the time, except when idiling for long periods then it slowly heads up to over 90 before the electric fan kicks in (jap spec). Maybe the thermostat is not quite shutting properly, although 80 sounds fine to me.

From memory it often sits around 70-80 but I think I've seen it at 90 a few times. On the Jap spec ones there is no scoop to direct air to the oil cooler as the A/C compressor is in the way. Your temps sound ok to me, a consistent 80 ish sounds good assuming you've got an 82 degree thermostat in there, you could always put an 88 degree one in if you'd like to keep it a bit hotter?

Cheers arrian. Not sure what thermostat I have in at the moment I thought I had put an 88 degree in but not 100% sure. I have done a lot of messing with it over the last year. Old age and too much beer taking its toll on the brain cells.
