Importing RJ1278 into NZ?

Hi all, I'm going through the process of importing a ERA Turbo into New Zealand from Japan.

It has the build number RJ1278, has been stored for over 10 years, has less than 15,000kms and is BRG instead of the red listed on the register.

I need to find out the build date for our land transport authority as the Japanese authorities can only confirm when it was first registered in Japan - which was 1992.

As far as I know the cars were built between 1989 - 1990 but I need to prove that the car was built before 1991 for officials to make the car exempt from emissions and frontal impact regulations.

I can PM the chassis number if someone knows how to analyse it?

Perhaps you have another way to work out when the car was built?
